Box Score FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern baseball team (4-0) took care of the Albany State Golden Rams (3-2) in this weekend's series opener, 15-3, Friday night at the NSU Baseball Complex.
The Sharks were led offensively by freshman
Andres Visbal (Miami), who finished the game 2-for-3, with three runs, two RBI and the first home run in his collegiate career, coming in the fifth inning to complete the scoring for NSU.
Pitcher
Roberto Baroniel (Jr., Miami) (2-0) had another solid performance on the mound, striking out a career-high nine batters in six innings of work and allowing just two earned.
Andrew Liberty(Fr., Boca Raton, Fla.) (1) picked up his first collegiate save, pitching three strong innings, allowing just one hit and striking out four.
The Sharks forced seven Albany State errors en-route to their largest win of the season.
Albany State came out of the gates with confidence, when they tallied a run and in the top of the first. However, the Rams lead was short lived after the Sharks lit up the scoreboard for eight runs in the second.
The Golden Rams cut the lead to 8-3 in the third, but that would be the closest Albany State would get . The Sharks put up three runs in the fourth and another four in the fifth inning to bring their total to a season-high 15 runs.
Angel Navarro (Jr., Miami Lakes, Fla.) had a strong game offensively in the nine-hole, going 2-for-3, with two doubles, three RBI and a run.
Michael Hernandez (Fr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) also had a three-RBI performance going 1-for-4, capitalizing on a three-run double in the second.
The senior
Geoff Jimenez (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) recorded his first RBI as a Shark, going 2-for-5, with a run, to go along with a game-high three stolen bases.
Alvin Swoope (Fr., Port St. Lucie, Fla.) kept his early season hot-hitting streak going, batting an even .500, 2-for-4, with a run and a couple of walks.
Brooks Fleming (Sr., Palm City, Fla.) increased his team-high RBI total to six, after bringing in two Sharks in the win. Fleming also scored three runs of his own.
Mario Urdaneta (Jr., Ocala, Fla.) recorded his first RBI of the season on a fielding error by the second baseman in the second inning, scoring Jimenez from third.
Casey Gibson (So., Fort Myers, Fla.) was walked three times in a 1-for-1 performance at the plate.
Alexander Fernandez (Jr., Davie, Fla.) recorded one of the team's five doubles in the game, going 1-for-3 at the plate.
The Sharks will conclude its series with Albany State tomorrow, as the doubleheader begins at 12 p.m. Both games will be seven innings.
